Of course. Say you are a subscriber and then decide to cancel for some reason - maybe it's too expensive.
When a cheaper version becomes available, FT would like to be able to contact you to let you know about the new deal.
Or maybe they would like to offer you a welcome back deal.

The point is, there are a lot of reasons a company would want this information that does not involve selling your information to someone else.
I don't want THEM having the information. If I sever my relationship with a business (for example, by canceling a subscription) I don't WANT them to pester me to re-sign. I don't want phone calls, mailings, and email. If their computer burps and decides I haven't paid them properly, I don't WANT them pestering me or having debt collectors pester me.

Firstly, as well as school i've worked 20 hours a week for nearly a year at around 6.50 an hour. I'll leave you to work out how much i've got. So no, it's not really ridiculous.
Secondly, my parents are happy to pay insurance. I find that fair to be honest.

Hey all, currently I use an Apple 20" HD display with my 12" powerbook. I use a MacAlly iceKey keyboard, which I totally love except the white color does not match so well with the aluminium display and laptop. Anyone know of a good USB or BT keyboard that would closely resemble the actual keyboard on my PB?

This is my first post. It takes a lot for me to stop being a lurker, but the idea that any user can resize a textarea on a site I design, dynamically redrawing the page, is among the dumbest ideas I've ever heard. This will break valid page layouts in new and unheard of ways. Designers make form elements a size and shape for a reason.
I look forward to finding a way using JavaScript to disable that feature the day that browser is released.
On the contrary, resizeable textareas are part of the CSS3 standard; Safari 3.0 will simply be the first mainstream browser to implement it. Once you try it, I promise you will not want to go back. It's really a non-issue, and I'm surprised anybody's complaining about it to the point they would disable this end-user feature using JavaScript. Is there a way to check how many of each iPhone version are currently activated?
I'm assuming there is still a large number of 3GS users out there and it just seems crazy that AT&T and to a lesser extent, carriers around the world, would allow millions? of users to go off contract without something new and pretty to keep them locked down.
But of course app purchases, accessories, and time spent with iOS will be enough to keep many loyal even with what Android can offer, even if they have to wait a few extra months.
I predict that if we don't see the iPhone 5 released in June/July, that there will at least be something mentioned about it at WWDC. Maybe even the normal Job's presentation, but "won't be available until" will be plastered on the screen.
Just something to keep those waiting to either say, that isn't enough to hold out for and to get an iPhone 4 or for others to hold out and keep feeding the app market in the mean time.
Either way Apple wins.

I have been physically assaulted in the past by straight people using those slurs. I have received death threats as well. You have no idea what that is like, not one ****ing clue. Get over yourself. Anyone who calls me ****** is gonna get a very firm talking to. If they continue, worse. Sorry if you don't like that, but I'm not going to put up with it. I will defend myself against such people. Like many other mid-sized and large companies, my current company also uses Lotus Notes. One of the features I like about Notes is address search. I can partially type in the name of my colleague and Notes retrieves the rest of the name (without me creating the address book). It gets awefully slow after the local server (meaning, the notebook's internal HD) reaches 1 GB data (for email); So, I had to create new local every 1 GB.
The Mac support for Notes would be good as that might open up a possibility my current employer's IT department might allow MBP for a company-issued notebook. As of now, it is all Dell.
Now that Notes will become more Mac friendly, the only other obstacle would be using AS400 database via Ramba.

If I ever get an iPhone again, I will never, ever update the software until waiting a couple months and finding out if it's causing problems for people. When Apple released their 3.0 iOS, it made my iPhone 2G so laggy that it pretty much broke the phone.

My 2007 MacPro 2,1 could use a boost also. Sadly it would make sense to replace it with a 27'' iMac with these new 3.4Ghz SandyBridge chip whenever it comes out. I can't really justify buying a 12 core machine just for Folding...

Because Apple's solution cuts them out from general demographics information as well (for those that opt out).
And I have not seen on option in iOS to prevent Apple from using my data for general demographics they use to sell their iAds.
