Hi
Are there any updates to the Bill that is being discussed right now ? I mean we have updates saying that they are discussing illegal immigration, border security, etc. I guess all of us are waiting to see & hear if something about us is getting discussed there. Something which would benefit our own community.
Please don't get me wrong, but many people hopefully look at the posts everyday thinking that there might be an update which might benefit thier case.I would urge & request someone from core members to give continuous updates.That would also eliminate lot of doubts especially amongst groups who are not very clear on the immigration voice activities.

Scan and send the docs, if your parents have access to email and a printer. See if anybody is traveling to Chennai from San Jose. Send the docs along with them.

USPS has this service called Express Mail ($27.95) or Priority Mail ($12.95)
I guess USPS is claiming 6-10 days (guess no gurantee) to india.
Other couriers seems to be $70+ (FedEx, UPS, DHL)..
Anyone has had good luck with USPS ? or do you suggest the couriers mentioned above ?

I am in H1 and filed for 485 and EAD, AP. Still have my H1B visa in my passport. Does getting EAD mean you are no more in H1? Or you really have to USE it to be out of H1.

You have your main rectangle in layer 1.
You keep Layer 2 selected
Hold CTRL and click on layer one
This will select the area of your rectangle on layer 1
Your marquee however will be on layer 2. So nudge the marquee as it says, then fill it.
Keep Layer 2 selected still and then CTRL+Click on layer one to again select your original shape.
Delete the selected area in layer 2.
You keep Layer 2 selected
Hold CTRL and click on layer one
This will select the area of your rectangle on layer 1
Your marquee however will be on layer 2. So nudge the marquee as it says, then fill it.
Keep Layer 2 selected still and then CTRL+Click on layer one to again select your original shape.

I just spoke to a service representative at USCIS in Jacksonville, Florida, and he explained that the I-797 cancellation notice will be identical to the original we received, except that it will say "Appointment Cancelled- No need to appear at ASC".
I explained that I already knew that but I was confused that my notice stated right below "cancelled" that I was to appear anyway.
He said that this is how they do it, but the appointment is definitely cancelled and we should receive reschedule notices in the next 2-4 weeks. I explained that I could not afford to miss this appointment so I needed to be 100% sure that it was cancelled instead of just assuming I didn't need to go.
He said due to a system error all appointments from July 5-10 were cancelled and would be rescheduled. He was very reassuring that those of us who received the cancellation notice were not going to run into problems because of all the confusion.
So I guess we sit back and wait some more huh?
I just thought I should share that info since I know there are quite a few here who are in the same situation and since our future depends on this it's not worth missing anything.

The information stated here in the context of pending AoS applications is incorrect.
While all non-citizens must file an AR-11 when moving, all those with pending petitions and cases at USCIS must ALSO file a change of address specific to their receipt/case numbers.
You may do this ONLINE at the USCIS website.

Note, you must STILL file the AR-11.
As for your change of city, if you are no longer in the same metropolitan area you shoud be cautious. Unless you are in a position to use AC21 portability, you may be invalidating the Labor as this is only valid for a job in the specified census area. (Usually 30 to 50 mile range).
Of course you can move, just make sure you send in AR-11within 10 days of moving. The lawyer has a good point though. I changed my address using AR-11 (because lawyer put wrong town and zip!!!) informed USCIS, they wrote back to say it had been done and kept sending receipts to the wrong address, which was none existent!! Here is my 2 cents.
Had an interview in US consulate in Mumbai late August.
Was asked just one question and the visa officer on counter-3 started talking with my wife about her life and our kid! they went on talking for 5-7 mins completely neglecting me or asking me a single question after the initial question.
After about 10 min she told my wife that you have been granted visa, we got our passports from VFS next day!
What I inferred from the conversation is that it is sometimes better to be the observer and not interfere :)
Don't worry you will receive your passport, but please remember next time don't speak until your are asked a question especially when there is a visa officer involved!

So i had this idea for doing long daylight exposures; I bought two linear polarizers and stacked them on my 20-35mm. When you cross the polarizers, it will almost completely black out the lens. Now I can do a shot like the one below, 20s exposure, 35mm, ISO 50, f/22. This technique gave me the fog effect from tidepool waves that I was looking for, but there have to be more applications of long exposure/bright light photography that I haven't thought of yet. Any suggestions on what else I can use this for?

Renewal of passport doesn't invalidate the visas in old passport. You have to carry both the passports while traveling foreign country.

- I have an H1B visa stamped on my passport from my previous employer "A"...The H1B stamped on my Indian passport is valid till Oct'2009.
- I made a transfer from EMPLOYER "A" to EMPLOYER "B" in June 2007.
- H1B filed under Premium processing by EMPLOYER "B" was approved on end of June 2007.
- However, the receipt # for EMPLOYER "B" is different than I-797 receipt # of EMPLOYER "A"

I don't think so, only Green cards and citizens are taxed on world wide income.
I meant the public provident fund run by the govt. We should check with a India tax expert on that, if non residents can contribute. don;t think they should have issues. PF allowed tax deduction for residents on 10% of the income, but you could always contribute as much as you wanted and top it up.
Anybody with expertise with the public PF? That would be a great if we could use that. As you said we can take off the contribution from our gross for tax purpose and also the interest rates are very high (I believe >10%), and on top of that it is not taxable when you withdraw at retirement age. I am going to ask my CA friend in India and will post the information here. However, it sounds too good to be true:D:D
